The RCX-1500 produces a whirring noise on startup - is this normal?
This is normal - this is simply the CD mechanism resetting itself. A software update has reduced this startup noise as well, so updating the software on the device may also help.

The receiver does not switch into Dolby Digital EX mode for movies with this format.
The RSX-1055 and RSX-1065 surround receivers have 3 different 6.1/7.1 surround formats available for digital sources – Dolby Digital EX, dts ES, and Rotel XS Expanded surround. For all dts soundtracks dts ES will decode additional surround information for the center back speakers. With Dolby Digital soundtracks however the default setting for the unit is to use Rotel XS Expanded surround for your center back information. To switch the default mode from Rotel XS to Dolby Digital EX, press the ‘+’ button on your remote control to cycle between both surround modes. Changing the mode to DD EX will set this as the default 6.1/7.1surround mode for all future Dolby Digital sources.

Rotel surround receivers have several different 6.1/7.1 surround formats available for digital sources – Dolby Digital EX, dts ES, Dolby Pro Logic IIx and Rotel XS Expanded surround. The Rotel receiver will "remember" the last used 6.1/7.1 processing mode it was set to and will use that as the default each time the same format is received. For example, when listening to a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack the mode is set to Dolby Digital + PLIIx to use Pro Logic IIx to add the additional rear channels. The next time a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is played the receiver will swicth to Dolby Digital + PLIIx automatically. A separate default is remembered for dts soundtracks as well.
To switch the default mode, when listening to a Dolby or DTS 5.1 soundtrack, press the 'SUR+' button, following by the ‘+’ button on your remote control to cycle between the available surround modes. Changing the mode in this way will set this as the default 6.1/7.1surround mode for all future Dolby Digital / dts sources.

The receiver will not turn off when using the power button.
Rotel receivers offer several different Power options, one of which includes a mode to keep the unit powered on at all times.
To change this back to its default power setting, access the OTHER OPTIONS selection of the Main Menu on the OSD. Change the POWER selection from ALWAYS ON to STANDBY to set it back to default.

The RSP-1582 is not sending audio output to the TV when I have set the Audio Mode to “HDMI Audio Output Only”.
Make sure that you have connected the HDMI output from the RSP-1582 to the TV using the HDMI output labeled “ARC/OSD” on the rear panel of the RSP-1582. The secondary HDMI output will only pass video and will not include the audio signal to the TV regardless of the Audio Mode setting.

The RSX-1560 and RSX-1562 have seven channels. What can I do with the other two if my system only has five speakers?
They need not sit idle! If your front speakers can be bi-amplified you can direct more power to the front left and right speakers. (Your speakers must have two sets of speaker binding posts that can allow the bass section to be separated from the midrange/tweeters).
Alternatively, you can use these two channels in a multizone configuration to drive speakers in another room.

There is no output from the speakers.
If the Rotel integrated amplifier is turning on but there is no output from the speakers, the first thing to check is the connections in your system, and make sure this is not isolated to a specific source by changing inputs. For example, if there is no sound from the tuner but the CD input plays fine, perhaps the antenna has come loose or has moved to an area of poor reception in the room.
Verify that all speaker wires are properly connected on both ends and none of the wires are touching.
Also, make sure that either the Speakers A or Speakers B (or both) is selected – without these selected the speakers are not active. If this does not solve the problem your dealer may be able to offer further assistance in troubleshooting your system.

There is no sound from a DVD player (or other digital connection) in Zone 2.
Zone 2 is designed for analog sources only. If the DVD player or Satellite is connected via only a Coax Digital or Optical audio inputs, these sources will not be available in zone 2. To get audio output from these sources in the second zone, connect the analog outputs to an input on the unit in addition to the Digital input.
