Frequently Asked Questions

My Rotel has stopped responding to the remote control.

One of the features of many Rotel products is the ability to switch between two completely different sets of IR codes. The purpose of these alternative IR code sets is to allow systems to utilize more than one Rotel device in the same area (for example large multiroom systems that may have centrally located equipment) without conflicting IR codes causing problems. However, on occasion it is possible to accidentally set the Rotel device to this code set which results in the unit no longer responding to the original remote.

To restore the unit to its original IR code set, simply do the following:

  • To revert the IR code library from the alternative code set to the original IR library, first press the "Tuner" and "1" button simultaneously on the remote (or "FM" and "1" if your remote is a model that does not have a "Tuner" button).
  • Now press and hold the "1" button on the remote control for 10 seconds. The front panel of the Rotel device should display either "RMC : 2->1" or "Audio Code Set 2 ---> 1" to indicate the change. On models that do not have a front display the LED on the volume knob will flash rapidly to confirm the change.

Repeat the above procedure and press “2” key instead of “1” to change the unit to the alternative remote code set.
